What is IPL Photofacial?
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) works by targeting melanin (pigment cells) and hemoglobin (broken blood vessels) in the skin without damaging surrounding skin tissue.
We have got you covered with a quick and hassle-free solution called IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) photo facials using the powerful Quanta IPL.
Typically, only 1 or 2 easy treatments of 20-30 minutes are needed to tackle various skin issues.
Please notice that IPL fixes existing issues but won’t shield you from future skin damage: your daily routine also matters!
Use the recommended products, slather on sunscreen, and live your best, healthy life. Touch-ups might be required every 1-4 years for most people.

Our IPL Technology: Quanta EVO
Not all IPL devices are created equal. At Elysian Laser Aesthetics, I use the Quanta EVO system — a medical-grade Italian-engineered platform that delivers superior results compared to spa-grade IPL machines.
What makes Quanta EVO different:
- Higher power output — Treats pigmentation and vessels more effectively in fewer sessions
- Advanced cooling system — Keeps you comfortable throughout treatment
- Precise wavelength control — Targets specific concerns without damaging surrounding skin
- Medical-grade technology — The same system used by dermatologists and plastic surgeons
Many Calgary spas use consumer-grade IPL devices that require 6-8+ sessions. With Quanta EVO, most clients see significant improvement in just 1-2 treatments.
Why Medical-Grade IPL Matters
Many Calgary spas and medi-spas use entry-level IPL devices that require 6-8 sessions to see results.
At Elysian Laser, I invest in medical-grade Quanta technology and am extremely comfortable with my equipment.
Fewer sessions = less time, less hassle, and often less money overall.

How does IPL work?
IPL is NOT a laser; think of it as a superhero Xenon light. It’s perfect for treating surface-level sun damage and those broken vessels. It’s like a makeover for your skin, targeting imperfections and leaving you with an even, radiant complexion. For deeper skin concerns like wrinkles or acne scars, explore our CO2 laser treatments or skin tightening options.
WONDERING IF YOU’RE A GOOD FIT FOR AN IPL PHOTOFACIAL TREATMENT?
If you want to even out your skin tone, combat aging signs, or say goodbye to redness, brown spots, and freckles, you’re in. Just a heads up – this treatment works best for lighter skin tones. If you’re a sun worshipper without sunscreen or a fan of tanning beds, you might need to reconsider.

Frequently Asked Questions about IPL Photofacial
Are there risks in doing IPL Treatments?
When done by a pro, IPL is very safe. Unlike laser hair removal, IPL CANNOT safely be done on darker skin. Dark skin likes to hold on to too much heat, which will result in a burn, or temporary discoloration of the skin. There are lots of other great options for beautiful darker skin colors though!
What happens during the IPL Photo facial treatment?
It’s a breeze, taking around 30-45 minutes. No numbing cream required. The technician preps you with skincare tips, and during the treatment, you’ll feel quick snaps of heat – uncomfortable but totally bearable.
What happens after an IPL treatment?
Well, it depends on the intensity of the treatment. You might experience some redness and darkened pigment spots, but these are temporary. No rubbing, scratching, or exfoliating during the healing process, though.
What does IPL feel like?
IPL should NOT be a painful treatment! It feels like a warm band snapping and leaves a tingle after for a few minutes. You might be blotchy red for a few hours and any dark spots will appear a few shades darker until they naturally flake away.
Scabs and crusting are not normal after IPL.
When will I see results?
Most clients see significant improvement after 1-2 treatments, though some skin concerns benefit from a third session.
How much does IPL photofacial cost in Calgary?
IPL photofacial pricing in Calgary ranges from $150 to $400+ per session depending on the clinic and equipment quality. At Elysian Laser Aesthetics, full-face IPL starts at $270 for your initial session and $250 for follow-ups. Unlike many clinics that require you to purchase packages of 6-8 sessions upfront, I let you pay per treatment — because with medical-grade equipment, most clients only need 1-2 sessions to see dramatic improvement.
How long do IPL results last?
IPL photofacial results typically last 1-4 years depending on your sun exposure and skincare routine. The treatment removes existing sun damage, age spots, and broken vessels, but it doesn’t prevent new damage from forming. To maintain your results, I recommend daily SPF 30+, antioxidant serums like Vitamin C, and avoiding tanning beds. Most clients return for a maintenance treatment every 1-2 years.
What's the difference between IPL and laser treatments?
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) uses broad-spectrum light to treat surface-level concerns like pigmentation, redness, and broken vessels. Laser treatments use a single, focused wavelength for deeper, more targeted results. For sun damage and rosacea, IPL is often the best choice — it’s effective, has minimal downtime, and treats the full face quickly. For deeper concerns like wrinkles, acne scars, or skin tightening, I’d recommend our CO2 laser treatments instead.
Can I combine IPL with other treatments?
Yes! IPL pairs beautifully with other treatments for comprehensive skin rejuvenation. Popular combinations include:
IPL + CoolPeel — Address pigmentation AND texture in one visit
IPL + Milia Removal — Clear skin tone and remove bumps
I can create a customized treatment plan during your consultation based on your specific skin concerns.
